Do you judge people based on their taste in music? How has musical taste either enhanced or detracted from your relationships (including friends, roommates, and romantic partners)?
Absolutely NOT. I think criticizing someone's taste in music is one of the rudest things you can do. In my opinion, everyone should be open to all genres of music. Even if I DIDN'T like the music a friend/relative/whatever was into, it'd be pretty goddamn horrible of me to say 'Uh, no. You like [insert genre here] so we can't be friends.' Who would do that? That's so...ugh.
This topic actually REALLY bothers me. I like many, MANY types of music (dark-wave, jazz-funk fusion, rap, r&b, classical, synthpop, industrial, emo, etc., etc.) and I honestly can say that I feel immense anger when, say, a friend who knows I like dark-wave is all 'Omg, you like RAP? More like CRAP. GOD. RAP IS SO BAD AND IS ALWAYS ABOUT BITCHES AND HOES.' First off, no. It isn't. Secondly, even if it was, who the hell are you to decide what's REAL music? Same with people I know who are just into Top 40 stuff. Hell yeah, lots of songs today are badass. But what about foreign music? What about stuff from the past decades? Give those a chance too. There are so many wonderful pieces of music from all time periods and I hate when people say 'ISN'T POPULAR DO NOT WANT.' It goes the other way too, though. I hate it when a person refuses to like a hit song of today just because it's 'in'. Like what you want to like! Who cares if it's popular or not. Don't be all OMG GAWTH or fucking indie over it. 'You people just don't understand what actual music is. I would know.' SHUT THE FUCK UP AHHHHH.
I despise anyone who thinks they are the ~AUTHORITY~ on music. All music is beautiful to someone. All music gives purpose to someone.
So again, NO. I do not judge and I wish anyone who does would stop right now.
Thanks, LJ. Now I'm mad. D:<
